To move aside momentarily. (there is much more Bruce to digest in the coming months as he officially makes the clubhouse turn with the apparent rite of passage Super Bowl gig.)

I did not see your take on 49:00, though candidly I may have just missed it. I have be playing it again lately. My favorite Westerberg in a very long time. Like maybe since "14 Songs". Dare I say it? It sounds like he was enjoying himself.

nice to see you.

my biggest irritation with the cowboy is that he starts off being humorous and then turns it into a serious thing, and if you hear him talk about it, he's very serious. so people say "oh it's just a funny story" and I want to say "have you really listened to ALL EIGHT MINUTES of it? it stops being funny after the first few lines."

but god i just resent that song taking up that much thought.

and musically it is nicely done. but if bruce is going to write us "the good the bad and the ugly" then, man, WRITE IT, for all that it's worth.

C
The Outlaw Pete thing (meaning the reaction to it) is more interesting than the song. I am convinced that so many like it or think they like it because its long. If its long and its Bruce it must be good or "epic". Leaving aside the irritating "I Was Made For Loving You" issue, I think the problem is that it is simply underwhelming. For whatever storytelling imagery it conjures up (like Stewie Griffin robbing a bank, for example), musically, it completely lacks drama. There is no musical foil, no crescendo,no denouement. For an 8 minute epic, that's a problem no matter how interesting the story may or may not be. You note the added concern that it will replace a couple short slots or one long slot in the set. See you down the road.
