Sure "For You" is about suicide which may not exactly fit the what should be a joyous request slot but its among his finer earlier works and admired by most. Certainly, it would be a welcome mid-set surprise. As for it being played alot, I think you have been lucky since I think its only been played 3 times the whole tour (including Nassau, which I know you attended) and not since Europe this summer. Yes, I realize that this tour was really just a few more legs added to the last tour, but I don't think he played it more than a handful of times last tour.

Either way, I think we can both agree that "Safe European Home" or "Left Of The Dial" would have trumped any of the above.

Dave, if full band "For You" was barely played these days I would agree with you. But I have seen it in the request slot in just about every other show I have gone to and I don't go to that many shows! I think he pulls it out of the audience because it is actually well-rehearsed but that is why I think it is a cop-out. Bring some other songs up to speed, and let's leave a song about SUICIDE out of the request set.

You know?

As usual I agree with nearly all of your thoughts. No need for me to reiterate just how horrible GS (or any stadium) is as a rock and roll venue or the level of euphoric good riddance.

No need for me to reiterate the full blown irritation of having drunk poseur morons previously just texting but now actually talking with back to stage during Something In The Night and Racing In The Street. (true) I alarmed most of my immediate area on the floor telling them to "shut the fuck up already". (true) Not something I do often, but necessary and effective at the time. (true)

No need for me to reiterate the inanity of Sunny Day. Its been so brutal now for 3 full tours and is literally just a photo op at this point. Painful. Mystifying. Even Lonesome Day was benched for a couple of shows.

No need reiterate all the glorious wonderful thrills and moments that a 5 night stand with E Street Band brings.....even --and ever -- still.

But......"For You" a copout? A copout? A copout? A full band "For You", which barely gets played these days would have been a most welcome shot from Greetings. Plus, recent versions actually confirm that band still knows it (unlike Saint In The City, which I love but which apparently continues to stump the band). If you point is that its an easy homerun because its a great song and both old and young dig it, but he could go even deeper into the catalog, then fine. But if that's the case, I'll happily let McCovey bat and take the easy homerun.

Anyway, thanks again for the space. Off to Ann Arbor this weekend for some Wilco and some Wolverine football. I'll report back.

Thanks, Anne (and Stan, of course!)
I wish Bruce would say something like, "We don't usually do this and it's special and it would be great if we could get a little quiet until the album is done, so that everyone can enjoy it." He's done it for his own sanity, why not do it for everyone else?

It was absolutely insane during "Meeting". On Wednesday the SO had to ask some Italian fans to please be quiet - you travel thousands of miles to see a show and your reaction to "Meeting" is to TALK? And on Thursday it was people wearing laminates who talked through everything, not just "Meeting," as well as the woman next to me, who had never seen Bruce before - however, that conversation was initiated by the person who brought her, who was an obvious show veteran!

I just do not understand what people are thinking. What could possibly be so important?

As always, enjoyed your review. You manage to convey that yes, you're a fan and love this stuff without coming across as an uncritical "kool-aid drinker" - and you manage to talk about the stuff you aren't crazy about without coming across as "I've seen too many shows and nothing will ever measure up and I'm just cranky." We don't agree about everything but that's half the fun. :) (Although I agree 100% on the talkers. I swear I'm bringing some f'ing duct tape to St. Louis and especially Nashville and shutting them up by force if need be.)

It will be interesting indeed to see what happens in the arenas...

Great recap Caryn.
Have I told you I love reading your reviews/thoughts.
I agree with you 100 percent about bringing a horn section. I though Curt Ramm added so much (except I couldn't hear him on "Last to Die."
Stil not quite sure what the backup singers have added this tour and were they really necessary?.
